2006 Louis Jadot Burgundy: An Amazing Transaction

On November 10th Francos Wine Merchants cornered the 2006 Maison Louis Jadot Burgundy market. The highly successful but ill-timed vintage arrived on the heels of the blockbuster 2005 vintage. Widely regarded as Burgundy's finest, the '05s were snapped up by collectors in an unprecedented fashion. The 2006 vintage showed up just as the economy came under pressure and with nervous retailers and restaurants across the country canceling their orders, the wine was left languishing in warehouses across the country. Francos, one of the few retailers who did honor their 2006 commitment, negotiated a buyout for all remaining stock in the U.S. If the 2005 hadn't preceded it, 2006 would have been acclaimed as one of Burgundy's finer efforts such as the classes of '96, '99, and '02.
